PM Modi Hails ISRO Launch of India's First-Ever Imaging Satellite in Geo-Orbit

ISRO has begun its 2026 launch programme on a successful note. The space agency's GSLV-F17 rocket lifted EOS-05 from Sriharikota on Friday and placed the more than 2,300-kg satellite into its intended sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit.
The mission has also given India a first in its imaging satellite programme, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the achievement a proud moment for the country.
EOS-05 Reaches Orbit After 18-Minute Flight
EOS-05 was placed in the intended transfer orbit about 18 minutes after liftoff. The satellite's deployment marks India's first-ever imaging satellite launch from geosynchronous orbit.
For ISRO, the mission is also its first successful launch of 2026, adding another milestone to the agency's work in the space sector.

Modi congratulated ISRO on the launch and described the mission as another outstanding achievement for the space agency. He said the success reflected the innovation and growing capabilities of India'.s space sector.
The Prime Minister also pointed to the increasing partnership between ISRO and Indian industry. He said this cooperation is giving the country's space programme greater strength and scale and is expanding capabilities across the wider space ecosystem.

EOS-05's deployment adds a distinct milestone to India's space programme, given that it is the country's first-ever imaging satellite launched from geosynchronous orbit.
The satellite reached the intended transfer orbit roughly 18 minutes after liftoff from Sriharikota, making the mission ISRO's maiden successful launch of the year.
