JSW Greentech Enters Commercial EV Segment with Ampstar

JSW Greentech has introduced Ampstar, its commercial electric vehicle brand, as the JSW Group moves into electric buses and trucks, as per news report. The brand was launched on September 22, 2026. 

The company said the vehicles will be made in India and developed for Indian roads, weather conditions and day-to-day commercial use. 

15,000 Vehicles a Year 

A 90-acre electric vehicle manufacturing plant is being set up at Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar in Maharashtra. The facility will have a combined annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. 

The planned capacity includes 10,000 buses and 5,000 trucks. The plant will have integrated battery systems and an automatic line for truck cabins. 

JSW Greentech said the facility will use a PTD process that can increase structural strength by around 50%. 

Initial Vehicle Range 

Ampstar will make buses ranging from 7 metres to 18 metres. The range will cover school, city, and intercity applications. 

On the truck side, the company will begin with a 55-tonne electric tractor-trailer. Tippers, fixed-body trucks, and dumpers are expected to be added later. 

The company is also planning different ways for customers to operate the vehicles. These include leasing, Battery-as-a-Service charged on a per-kilometre basis and per-person-per-kilometre arrangements for buses. 

For trucks, Ampstar plans to use a per-tonne-per-kilometre model. Lifetime maintenance support will also be available. 

Development Over 16 Months 

Parth Jindal, Managing Director of JSW Cement and JSW Paints, said Ampstar was developed from inception to launch in 16 months. The company consulted corporates, fleet operators, drivers, and passengers during this period. 

Sumit Mittal, CEO of JSW Greentech, said commercial vehicles account for a significant portion of India’s diesel consumption. He said the company was looking at electric vehicles in the segment from an operating-cost perspective. 

Previous Regulatory Approval 

JSW Greentech was established in 2024. In February 2026, it received CMVR Type Approval from the Automotive Research Association of India for the JSW 12M 51+D AC SDX electric bus.

Conclusion 

The approval allows production and commercial rollout, subject to orders and state procurement processes. The Ampstar launch now brings the company’s planned bus and truck operations under one commercial EV brand.
