AIF Commitments Touch ₹17.53 Trillion in June 2026 as Investments Cross ₹7 Trillion

Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) saw their total commitments rise to ₹17.53 trillion by June 2026, a Business Standard news report citing SEBI data showed.
The figure was ₹16.94 trillion at the end of March 2026, translating into a rise of nearly 3.5% in three months. The increase was more pronounced on a yearly basis, with commitments up nearly 23.6% from June 2025.
₹7.1 Trillion Invested
AIFs had raised ₹7.58 trillion by June 2026, of which ₹7.1 trillion had been invested. The investment figure crossed ₹7 trillion for the first time.
The rise in commitments has been recorded consistently in the June figures over the past few years. Commitments stood at ₹4.87 trillion in June 2021, ₹6.94 trillion in June 2022 and ₹8.45 trillion in June 2023.
The figure moved to ₹11.78 trillion in June 2024 before reaching ₹14.18 trillion in June 2025.
Real Estate Sees First Fall
Real estate continued to account for the largest amount of AIF investment. However, investment in the sector fell to ₹87,969 crore in June 2026 from ₹1.29 trillion recorded up to March.
This was the first decline in total real estate investments. At the same time, several other sectors saw higher investments during the quarter.
Investments Across Sectors
Financial services accounted for ₹69,083 crore, while IT/ITeS had ₹41,288 crore invested. NBFCs and banks accounted for ₹34,752 crore and ₹30,178 crore, respectively.
Pharmaceutical investments stood at ₹23,323 crore. Healthcare providers and services accounted for ₹19,801 crore, while insurance and automobile investments stood at ₹15,981 crore and ₹15,057 crore.
Investments in financial services, IT/ITeS, NBFCs, banks, pharmaceuticals and healthcare providers increased from March.
Fundraising and SEBI Framework
AIF commitments are generally drawn down in tranches by fund managers. These amounts are then reflected progressively in the funds raised.
SEBI has made several changes to AIF fundraising and operations over the years. It is also considering a review of the accredited investor framework, which could change the process for onboarding investors.
